In the PCWorld article, How the Grinch Stole the iPad, they make mention of a "very minor upgrade" to the iPad. Below is their write up. I have to assume this is their prediction for what will be included in the update. I changed this to a bullet list, but the words remain the same. 

FTA:

If the rumors hold up, we're looking at a veryminor upgrade to the iPad. Expect a 

• thinner body, 

• front-facing camera for FaceTime video chat, 

• back-facing camera, 

• USB port and maybe the 

• iPhone 4's Retina display. 

Really?

I'm not sure what the writers at PCWorld are smoking these days, but how is that a "minor upgrade"?  Two cameras and a USB port, plus a Retina Display?  Seems pretty substantial to me. 

Didn't the addition of just 1 camera and the Retina display make the iPhone 4 the hottest phone around?

Secunia recovers from DNS redirection hack

November 26, The Register – (International) Secunia recovers from DNS redirection hack. Security notification firm Secunia has confirmed that a DNS redirection hack was to blame for the redirection of surfers to a hacker site on November 25. Secunia's authoritative DNS hosting was redirected for 70 minutes. But because of the way DNS caching works, many surfers were still redirected to a defacement site hours after the Danish firm's definitive records were straightened out. The attack resulted in a temporary redirection of traffic from all customers of registrar DirectNIC, not just Secunia. The hack was carried out by serial defacer TurkGuvenligi, who has used site-redirection techniques in previous attacks and seems to be motivated by bragging rights or pure mischief rather than anything more malign. In a statement, Secunia was keen to stress that the redirection had no impact on any customer data it held from users of its patch management tools.

Attachmate agrees to purchase Novell

November 22, 2010 —  Novell is no more. Pending the approval of stockholders and government regulators, the computer networking giant will be sold to Attachmate—best known for systems security and application integration—for US$2.2 billion, or $6.10 per share.

In a statement announcing the purchase, Attachmate said it will operate Novell as two divisions: SUSE Linux, and the rest of Novell, which includes the ZENworks virtualization software and other networking solutions. Further, Novell entered into an agreement to sell some of its intellectual property assets to a Microsoft-organized consortium: CPTN Holdings, which will pay $450 million in cash.

Attachmate has not yet provided a vision for which Novell products would be integrated into Attachmate's portfolio. The company is owned by private investors Francisco Partners, Golden Gate Capital and Thoma Bravo.

Microsoft was tight-lipped regarding the assets it will acquire, and Novell did not elaborate in its statement. Novell has been the corporate sponsor of the Mono project, an open-source implementation of Microsoft's .NET Framework; its future is now in question. The fate of Novell's JBoss middleware system also is unclear at this time.

Google sues Interior over cloud RFQ

Google is suing the Interior Department for allegedly excluding Google's products in a request for quotation the agency issued on Aug. 30. The RFQ, for hosted e-mail and collaboration services, specifies that the proposed solutions must be part of the Microsoft Business Productivity Online Suite.

According to the court filing, Google officials had met with the Interior department several times, and pursued discussions in correspondence, in an effort to convince the department that Google's applications were capable of handling Interior's needs, and that they should also be considered as a possible solution.

Software developers make or break a platform, as Microsoft's Steve Ballmer once famously stressed, but that shiny new Windows Phone 7 site has angered a mildly important one of them. Rovio Mobile, developer of the wildly popular Angry Birds game, tweets that it's presently 'not committed' to bring the game to Windows Phone, and that the above icon is being used in Microsoft marketing completely without permission. The tea party movement is forging links with the English Defence League, a nascent anti-Islamic movement in Great Britain that has made a habit of rioting in Muslim neighborhoods, says a report at the Observer.

The news comes a day after the EDL clashed with anti-fascist protesters in the city of Leicester, which has a large Muslim population. Eight people were arrested in those clashes. It is part of a pattern of behavior for the EDL, which has in the past burned Korans and carried signs declaring "We hate Muslims."

The Observer reports that the EDL has forged an alliance with Pamela Geller, one of the leaders of the movement to stop the so-called "Ground Zero mosque."

Premier John Brumby of the Australian state of Victoria has announced the launch of one of the world's largest electric vehicle (EV) trials. With A$5 million in funding ($4.9 million U.S. at the current exchange rate) and more than 50 organizations and 180 residents participating, the five-year-long EV trial is epic in both size and duration. Our desire to run apps on Apple TV is becoming more of a reality today, as we're hearing yet another important step has just been taken.

As reported by Gizmodo, iPhone developer Steven Troughton-Smith has announced, via Twitter, that he has already found a way to install apps on his Apple TV. He claims it's quite simple. Last month I raved about GroupMe, a free group text and conference call service that works on any phone. DURHAM, N.C. -- Flicking through a wallpaper app with backgrounds of Mickey Mouse and a tropical waterfall, Peter Gilbert gets a plain, black and white text notification on his smartphone.

A third of the way down the screen it says, "Taint: Phone Number, IMEI, ICCID (sim card identifier)." The message alerts Gilbert that the wallpaper app has sent his phone's number and other identifying information to imnet.us. Checking online, it appears the address is a website in Shenzhen, China.

The notification came from TaintDroid, a prototype extension to the Android mobile-phone platform designed to identify apps that transmit private data. The phone-based tool monitors how applications access and use privacy sensitive data, such as location, microphone, camera and phone numbers, and provides feedback within seconds of using a newly installed app

• Ensure that agency procurements of networked IT comply with Federal Acquisition Regulation requirements for using the USGv6 profile and testing program for the completeness and quality of IPv6 capabilities.

One of the greatest challenges DREN faced was the lack of commercial network management tools that adequately supported IPv6, Broersma said. Many products that claimed to be IPv6-compliant lacked critical functionality and implemented the support in different ways. That was a concern echoed by industry and government representatives at the workshop.

Mohan said that when Afilias was implementing IPv6 on its networks, it found a “remarkable difference” in the way equipment processed IPv6 packets. The packets were processed in software rather than hardware, resulting in slower performance and requiring the use of banks of appliances rather than single tools to provide the performance needed.

The National Institute of Standards and Technology encountered the same problem when it was developing a technology profile for IPv6 compliance, said Doug Montgomery, manager of NIST's Internet and Scalable Systems Metrology Group.

One of the gaping holes was the lack of network security devices, he said. The USGv6 testing program is expected to help correct that by establishing a baseline of support that is required from vendors selling to the government.

The nugget: Twitter, and other popular services and programs that don't have a business plan, should take note. Popular success doesn't mean money in the bank. Sometimes it doesn't even mean being able to keep a roof over your head.

I can only hope that someone will come along and invest in Xmarks and work out a real business plan for it. It would be a shame for this wonderful program and service to disappear.

John Streufert, the State Department deputy chief information officer and chief information security officer, says in an interview with GovInfoSecurity.com that the daily monitoring of IT vulnerabilities under Risk Scoring truly measures systems and network security as compared with the once-every-three-year assessment required by the Federal Information Security Management Act of 2002. Because of Risk Scoring, overall risk on State's key unclassified network has plunged by more than 80 percent in the past year.
